This has got to be Shelley at its 1930s best! The pattern is the very lovely BLUEBELL WOOD - it is Shelley Art Deco and  Shelley subtle.

The pattern is a blend of hazy blues, yellows and greens and perfectly depicts a bluebell wood in spring. The pattern was first used in December 1932. It is applied to the very elegant and practical Vincent shape cup, saucer and plate.
The Vincent shape was hugely popular as the cup size and shape makes it light and easy to drink from. It's almost like a small elegant version of todays ubiquitous mug.
The very Art Deco pattern is testament to the fact that Shelley employed some very radical designers at the time under the art directorship of Eric Slater. The trio would have shared the decorating bench with Queen Anne shape cups and the radical Vogue and Mode shape sets. Shelley really was at the peak of its production and design.
The pattern number is 12108 and the image of the backstamp is from the base of the cup. All three items have the same marks and are all printed with the pattern name as well as the number.
The trio is normal tea service size.

  • The cup "pings" beautifully. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. The pattern is intact and the blue on the handle is unrubbed and free of any scratches. The cup does have a dark area at the rim when you hold it up to the light. This is not visible under normal circumstances. That's why I have listed it at a lower price.
  • The saucer again sings out like the cup. There is no damage - no chips, cracks or crazing.
  • The plate is in the same condition as the other two items with absolutely no damage or crazing.

Measurements

  • The plate is around 6.5 inches (16.5cm) "square".
  • The saucer is around 5.5 inches (14cm) in diameter.
  • The very pretty cup stands just under 3 inches high (7.5cm) at the rim.

Payment
I accept personal cheques in Sterling (with appropriate bank clearance interval), money orders in Sterling and credit cards via PayPal.

Postage
I am normally  happy to pack multiple purchases together to save on postage but as this is a very rare and fragile item of porcelain it needs to be packed on its own. If purchased within the UK it wil be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery which includes adequate cover for loss and damage. If purchased by an overseas buyer I have indicated that the "signed for" charge is required which again provides the same level of compensation for loss. Please dont bid on this lovely trio unless you are prepared to accept the appropriate postage charges.

Please email me with any questions!

Thanks for looking, Good luck, and happy bidding!
