LATE VICTORIAN/EDWARDIAN DOCTORS BELL WITH PUSH BUTTON

This attractive item is a doctors bell with delightful push button operation and a pleasing ring from the brass bell on top. Approximately 100 years old this item would originally have had a large battery and old fashioned wiring. These have been replaced with modern wiring and standard C type batteries to enable the unit to be tested which I can repott is in full working order. The turned hand held button mechanism has bone fitments. The main bell housing is top and tailed with turned wood, the central housing for the battery being of metal construction with simulated wood grain decoration. There is a section to insert the name of the doctor and on the rear a small brass hook which would probably have been where the patients name was hung as a reminder to the doctor. The main housing stands approx 9 inches tall to the top of the bell with the diameter of the base being approx 4 inches. This unusual item is in outstanding condition and full working order. It would be improved by replacing the test cable with old style wiring.
