Formerly York City Reference Library.

This is a 1st edition of Sir Walter Besant’s London in the time of the Stuarts. This is from the famous ten volume work The Survey of London. Very good condition as you would expect having spent its time in the reference library. Usual stamps and a mark to front cover where library bookplate removed. The rear of the book has a pocket with a removable large map titled ‘A large and accurate map of the City of London’ – ichnographically describing all the streets, lanes, alleys, courts, halls, and houses etc. actually surveyed and delineated by John Ogleby Esq His Majesty’s cosmographer. This is a 1903 copy of Ogleby’s 1677 Map of London. The map measure approx 40 inches by 25 inches. The book itself contains many pictures and maps etc in its 400 pages. This is a large and heavy book.
