PAIR OF W/Cs YOUNG GIRL WITH RABBIT + LANDSCAPE C1820

A lovely portrait of a young girl holding a rabbit together with a watercolour landscape (almost certainly South Wales). The two watercolours are on two sides of an album leaf - they are attached by corners only and it should be possible to remove one of them so that they can be displayed separately.

Provenance:  From an album of watercolours and drawings dating from the later eighteenth century and early nineteenth century. The earliest dated drawing is 1806 and the latest 1826. The only text is the names of artists, subjects and dates (on some of them). The ealiest works (portraits) date from the 1790s based on costume and hair style. Subjects range from Grand Tour paintings to more local studies many of which are of South Wales - the Mumbles, Caswell Bay, "Near Swansea". The names include Annie Bassett Hewson, Agnes Middleton and Edward Vernon Harbord and several are initialled FB and TE. The only name I have been able to research successfully is a drawing dated 1821 by Edward Vernon Harbord who became the 4th Baron Suffield and who was born in 1813 (it isn't bad for an eight year old!) 

The album was last on the market in 1982 when it was sold by Lalonde Bros and Parham in Bristol - the property of a deceased estate (GH Wilshire).

There is always a bit of an issue about breaking albums such as this one and more often than not I buy an album and then can't bring myself to break it and end up selling it complete (and at a loss) only to see the individual paintings and drawings come up at auctions. On this occassion I feel less guilt as the works are very mixed, the album spine is already broken and several of them are loose and there is little text to give this  historical importance - so I can see little argument against selling these separately so they can be individually displayed and enjoyed (but I still don't like doing it!)
