This lovely waxed pine Victorian Clerks Desk has got a wonderful Dickensian feel about it, and would make a useful table top desk where space is limited.
It comprises of a hinged lid which opens to reveal a deep compartment within. It has a raised lip to its lid so that this can also be used as a lecturn if required. There is a gallery rail at the rear. Originally, there was a brass lock to this storage compartment, though both the lock to this and to the drawer have since been removed. However, the ornate escutcheons are still present, as photographed.
Below is a single drawer of dovetailed construction that is the full length of the slope, making it a good size for the storage of a laptop if required. It boasts its original ornate brass escutcheon and brass handle, though the lock itself is no longer present.
The slope, itself, is also of dovetailed construction and all joints are sound. We have simply gently cleaned and revived the pine with beeswax to ensure it presents at its best. There is some ink staining to the inside of the slope, a sign of a bygone age, and one small knot missing to the drawer lining, all mentioned and photographed in pursuit of accuracy. While allowance should be made for age related wear including a split to its top (though this is braced underneath and is still quite sound) this is in good condition for its age, with no evidence of worm.
Dimensions: 62 cms wide x 54 cms deep x 29 cms max high including rear gallery upstand.
We regret that due to its size and bulk this is for collection only. Please note we are away from the 19th November to 26th November inclusive. However, we are available most weekdays outside of this period, as well as most Sundays. Please email prior to purchase for confirmation of availability.
According to Greenpeace, a football pitch-sized area of forest disappears every two seconds to feed an ever-increasing global demand for wood. Do your bit for the Planet by buying an item of pre-loved furniture that will not cost the Earth. Why buy repro, when you can have an original?
I'll leave the pics to describe this best. Please note any items displayed are not included, but to give an idea of scale.
As with all my listings, this is a vintage item and as such does come with some evidence of age. If you are looking for pristine condition, then this might not be for you. I do try to give an accurate description of the condition, as I hope my feedback testifies, but this is always relative. I would urge you, therefore, where possible to arrange a viewing by prior appointment to satisfy yourself prior to bidding. Do bear in mind that Ebay final prices often reflect the fact that an item is being bought sight unseen and, there is, therefore, an element of risk , which is why it is always preferable to buy from a Reputable Power Seller like ourselves, with a long-established 100% Positive Feedback Rating. That said, the end price is likely to be much lower than you would pay in an antique shop where the cost of overheads is built in to the retail price.
And for those who prefer not to have to wait till the end of an auction, only to be outbid, I am offering this at a sensible Buy It Now price to sell. So, no need to wait till the last minute. This will sell to the first who clicks on Buy It Now. Please do this early to avoid disappointment. Thank you for looking.
PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT OR TWO TO READ THE PAYMENT & SHIPPING TERMS BELOW.

FULL DETAILS ARE AVAILABLE BY CLICKING ON THE 'ABOUT ME' LINK (me) NEXT TO THE POWER SELLER SYMBOL under 'Meet the Seller' at the top of this listing. Please note that while we are not a Retail Shop, we do offer a continuous changing stock of Antiques & Vintage items that are likely to be alot less than you would pay in any conventional antiques shop.
Would the successful bidder please make contact via email or phone within 24 hours of the auction close to notify me of their intentions regarding payment & collection/delivery. My contact details will be noted on the invoice sent upon auction close.
Would International Bidders please note that payment from overseas can only be accepted via Pay Pal.
UK TRANSACTIONS:
1. Personal Cheque: I allow 5 working days' clearance of cheques from banking, so please bear this in mind if you require your item quickly. As we are in a village, it is not always possible to bank cheques on the day of receipt. You might want to consider an alternative method, if so. Would you please make cheques payable to J. Willis - not Owl Cottage Collectables.
2. Pay Pal: If you wish to pay by Debit or Credit Card it is easy to do so via Pay Pal. It is the Seller who is charged for this service and while we do not pass this cost on to the customer, we would appreciate prompt payment via Pay Pal. It can take up to 5 days for a Pay Pal payment to be transferred to our bank account - so if you delay payment by Pay Pal, this delays our reimbursement costs to that extent + the extra 5 days!
3.Please email for arrangements if you are planning to collect personally.
NON-PAYMENT
Unfortunately, I have now had my fair share of non-paying bidders so I regretfully have to point out that a Payment Reminder will be sent automatically after 5 days via Ebay.
After 7 days a Non-Paying Bidder dispute will be opened and if no satisfactory response is received during this process, you will receive a non-paying bidder striket. There should be no necessity for it to get to this stage, if the buyer emails or phones to say there was a good reason why they had bid but have now had to delay payment. Communication really is the key to a trouble-free transaction.
