This is the 1933 first edition of RACING IN THE OLDEN DAYS by William Fawcett
Scans of this book may take a few moments to load: if so, your patience is appreciated…
Equine history with stories and anecdotes of famous sportsman, runners and riders, courses and horses …
Hardback, around five inches by 7.5 tall (circa 124 mm x 192 mm if you prefer) is bound in its original black-on-green boards.
First edition published by Hutchinson & Co, London, undated (but publisher's ads at rear dated Autumn 1933). No ownership inscriptions or permanent markings to the text. Although interior condition is overall very good, book displays minor signs of use or age consistent with a volume of this vintage. All 254 pp are complete and otherwise correct.
The work's fuller title: "Racing In The Olden Days. Being Jockey Club and Epsom history, with stories, anecdotes and memories of famous sportsmen, horses and racecourses in the days of yore"
The work features nine monochrome illustrations. We should see a few sample pages appear directly ...
¶ William Fawcett was hunting and racing editor of The Field.
He once described himself as one of the "infants who went out hunting with the Cleveland (Hunt) on their shaggy ponies". ¶
