This elegant pair of Stickback Elbow Chairs date to the early 1900s and are upholstered in red velvet with traditional studwork.
What sets these apart are the brass plaques to the base of each seat stating these were produced by Trevor Page of Norwich, Upholsterers and Cabinet Makers, who were established around 1900 in the town. It is always favourable to find the original cabinet maker's name badge as this ensures identification for the future, and thus adds value to your investment.
The joints to these chairs is generally sound, with no damage or woodworm. Both are constructed from Beech and have turned 'H' stretchers.
These have an elegant simplicity in their lines and would make an attractive pair either side of a hearth or in an alcove or hallway. The upholstery fabric is in excellent condition and the original hessian under-covering is also in good order.
Dimensions:
21.5 inches wide x 21 inches deep x 37.5 inches high
Height of Seats: 17 inches
Please note as these are antique chairs, I do not want to ship these via bulk courier as they are susceptible to damage due to mishandling. Please check out our Shipping Terms at the foot of the listing, or feel free to collect by prior arrangements. See notes under Collections if you wish to consider this option.
I am offering these at a low start price which might assist bidders, when taking into consideration shipping cost.
Thank you for looking!
I'll leave the pics to describe this best. Please note any items displayed are not included, but to give an idea of scale.
Would International Bidders please note that they will need to make their own arrangements for shipping overseas. See details of our recommended courier below, and note also that payment from overseas can only be accepted via Pay Pal. Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.
As with all my listings, this is a vintage item and as such does come with some evidence of age. If you are looking for pristine condition, then this might not be for you. I do try to give an accurate description of the condition, as I hope my feedback testifies, but this is always relative. I would urge you, therefore, where possible to arrange a viewing by prior appointment to satisfy yourself prior to bidding.
Do bear in mind that Ebay final prices often reflect the fact that an item is being bought sight unseen and, there is, therefore, always an element of risk, which is why it is always preferable to buy from a Reputable Power Seller like ourselves, with a long-established 100% Positive Feedback Rating. That said, the end price is likely to be much lower than you would pay in an antique shop where the cost of overheads is built in to the retail price.
With that in mind, as for the worth of this item, I'll leave you, the bidder, to determine this but please remember, you may not be the only one watching this item, and that the first to place the highest bid will be the successful winner of this auction, so dont miss out!
Thank you for looking and happy bidding!
According to Greenpeace, a football pitch-sized area of forest disappears every two seconds to feed an ever-increasing global demand for wood. Do your bit for the Planet by buying an item of pre-loved furniture that will not cost the Earth. Why buy repro, when you can have an original?
PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT OR TWO TO REFER TO THE PAYMENT & SHIPPING TERMS BELOW.
Important
Alot of bidders are now using an automatic bidding tool which enters their bid in the last seconds of the auction ensuring they win. Also, I often get emails after an auction has ended from Watchers saying they missed out on bidding due to being away from their pc or having been distracted. Just recently would-be bidders were unable to access the page of several items due to a glitch within Ebay and, therefore, missed the opportunity to bid).
May I recommend, to avoid being disappointed, you place the maximum you would like to pay as early as possible. This does not mean you will have to pay this amount as Ebay bids for you only up to your maximum if someone outbids you.)
SO PLEASE BID EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT.

FULL DETAILS ARE AVAILABLE BY CLICKING ON THE 'ABOUT ME' LINK (me) NEXT TO THE POWER SELLER SYMBOL under 'Meet the Seller' at the top of this listing. Please note that while we are not a Retail Shop, we do offer a continuous changing stock of Antiques & Vintage items that are likely to be alot less than you would pay in any conventional antiques shop.
Would the successful bidder please make contact via email or phone within 24 hours of the auction close to notify me of their intentions regarding payment & collection/delivery. My contact details will be noted on the invoice sent upon auction close.
Would International Bidders please note that payment from overseas can only be accepted via Pay Pal.
UK TRANSACTIONS:
1. Personal Cheque: I allow 5 working days' clearance of cheques from banking, so please bear this in mind if you require your item quickly. As we are in a village, it is not always possible to bank cheques on the day of receipt. You might want to consider an alternative method, if so. Would you please make cheques payable to J. Willis - not Owl Cottage Collectables.
2. Pay Pal: If you wish to pay by Debit or Credit Card it is easy to do so via Pay Pal. It is the Seller who is charged for this service and while we do not pass this cost on to the customer, we would appreciate prompt payment via Pay Pal. It can take up to 5 days for a Pay Pal payment to be transferred to our bank account - so if you delay payment by Pay Pal, this delays our reimbursement costs to that extent + the extra 5 days!
3. If you want to pay on collection please email in advance to confirm and make arrangements.
NON-PAYMENT
Unfortunately, I have now had my fair share of non-paying bidders so I regretfully have to point out that a Payment Reminder will be sent automatically after 5 days via Ebay.
After 7 days a Non-Paying Bidder dispute will be opened and if no satisfactory response is received during this process, you will receive an unpaid item strike. There should be no necessity for it to get to this stage, if the buyer emails or phones to say there was a good reason why they had bid but have now had to delay payment. Communication really is the key to a trouble-free transaction.

The following rates strictly apply to our own courier service only, via Abbey Antiques Courier Service. These rates offer a substantial discount on Abbey's usual rates, negotiated due to our volume of items shipped. We are pleased to be able to pass on this saving to our customers. However, we regret there can be no further discount for additional items of furniture purchased and shipped at the same time. The applicable courier rate quoted for each item will apply.
Abbey are a long-established reputable courier service. However, in the event that they cannot agree a delivery time/day with the recipient, we will be unable to make alternative arrangements. We suggest, therefore, that you arrange for a neighbour or friend to receive this on your behalf if you are unable to take receipt of the item on the days suggested by Abbey. Failure to be able to make alternative arrangements will mean that you will need to organise a courier service of your own choice at your own cost. In the case of Free Delivery, no compensation will apply in this circumstance.
* Delivery to England & Wales Mainland: £35
For elsewhere, please email for shipping cost. Thank you.
We regret we cannot offer a courier service for certain parts of Scotland & Ireland. Please email with your postcode prior to purchase for confirmation. For Europe please email for shipping cost prior to purchase.
Our courier service is not an express service. We aim to collect and to deliver the item within England and Wales within 21 days of payment having been received for the delivery. Scotland and Ireland may take slightly longer. Generally our courier service is well inside 21 days. We will try our utmost to oblige if you have particular time constraints, though can offer no guarantees.
The service is kerbside. It is not the courier’s job to carry goods through awkward passages or up flights of stairs. The Courier does not expect to be asked to assemble or dismantle items. You must tell us in advance if you are expecting delivery to go beyond your doorstep.
There will usually only be one driver on their van. He will need assistance with delivery for larger items. He is very helpful and obliging and will often assist beyond the kerbside, but he is not obliged to do so. Our insurance does not cover any incident which may take place whilst the driver is providing additional help beyond our van. If you require 2-man assistance, there will be an additional charge. Please email prior to booking if you require this additional service.
Please ensure we have correct Delivery Address, Home, Work and Mobile Telephone numbers. If the item is to be delivered to a new home address, other than your Ebay address, please ensure we have this new address in advance of booking. Our courier will email the buyer direct with suggested delivery dates. Please look out for this email, both in your Inbox and Junk Box (just in case). Any delay by the buyer in replying to their email will delay collection and delivery.
Finally, whether this be a Free Delivery or a paid for service by the Buyer, there will be a cancellation charge levied of £25 once the booking has been made.
Deliveries to London may be either at the weekend or mid-week but will be advised a few days prior.
IN THE CASE OF ITEMS TO BE POSTED, BECAUSE WE LIVE IN A SMALL VILLAGE, WE DO ALLOW UP TO 5 DAYS FOR SHIPPING TO ENSURE AS MANY PARCELS CAN BE SHIPPED AT ONCE, THUS KEEPING CARBON EMISSIONS TO A MINIMUM. HOWEVER, IF YOU DO REQUIRE YOUR PARCEL URGENTLY, PLEASE ADVISE AT CLOSE OF TRANSACTION AND WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO COMPLY.
COLLECTIONS:
When items are to be collected, please allow for the fact that we are not at home 24-7 and that some flexibility will be necessary. If you can only collect on a given day it is best to check prior to bidding to see if I am available for collection on that day to avoid disappointment. We are very often delivering at the weekends and unavailable for collections during the hours of 9.30 am - 5.30 pm Saturday & Sunday.
Due to parking restrictions and roads into our village being narrow, if an item is to be collected in a commercial vehicle we would prefer to meet the driver at J10 of the A1M, Radwell Services, Baldock to deliver the item there by prior arrangement.
I would appreciate items being collected within 2 weeks of the close of the auction. Please email if there is a problem with that prior to bidding as my storage space is limited. Unfortunately, due to limited space, if an item is not collected after 2 weeks unless by prior agreement, I will have to charge £5 per week for storage and the item will be disposed of after 90 days.
Finally....
Feedback & Detailed Seller Rating Stars:
When you give 4 stars, you might think this is a good score - for instance you might interpret a 4 in Shipping Time to mean "Quickly". However, EBay, considers this a sub-par mark. Their standards require sellers to maintain 4.8 & above or penalise the seller with higher fees & more.
I strive for 5-star service by giving an accurate description, stating up front my policies, my shipping rates & my payment terms. Upon close of an auction, I will email the buyer straight away with an invoice, and if it is an item of furniture, with my contact number and recommended method of shipping, if required.
If you were pleased with this transaction, please respond with all 5 stars! If you are not pleased, let me know via e-mail, and I'll work to make it that way.
Let's work together to make a great Ebay community, full of good bargains & a pleasure for all. And by keeping our fees as low as possible, we can ensure our fixed prices remain affordable to all. Thank you.
Insurance:
Insurance is included in transit.
