In my opinion a beautiful QUALITY EARLY GEORGIAN, 19thc "NEWCASTLE STYLE" WINE DECANTER. An exquisite example, with larger than average ,hand blown facet cut body, often called a bell shape, and original neck collar and hollow ribbed stopper. The is a simple star cut to the centre of the under base !! I estimate the decanter to be circa 1825 in date. Made in the North East of England at one of many glass works in the Newcastle area. The decanter is in good order. There is a small and expected amount of under base age associated wear and tear. Would benefit from a light clean, as this has been boxed away for years !! A rare and unusual period decanter. Height of the decanter is 12.5 inches, bowl diameter/ width at 5 inches. |
