| Nice display specimen of an Edmontosaurus caudal vert in its original sandstone matrix, the vert measures 8cm (3 1/8 inch) in length on a matrix measuring 20cm (8 inches) x 17cm (6 5/8 inches), the vert has been treated with acrylic varnish and the sandstone has been preserved. The specimen has no repair. The fossil comes from the Lance Creek formation, Wyoming USA and dates to the late Cretaceous period of 71 - 65 million years ago. Edmontosaurus meaning 'Edmonton lizard), after where it was first found and sauros meaning lizard was a genus of hadrosaurid dinosaur from the Maastrichtian, the last stage of the Cretaceous period, circa 71 - 65 million years ago. Dependant upon species a full grown adult could have been up to 30ft (9 metres) in length and some could possibly grow up to 40ft (13 metres) it would have weighed in the region of 4 tons making it one of the largest and heaviest harosaurids. This is a heavy piece at 2kg. A number of species of Edmontosaurus have been identified.
