Our 5Star C-550 Paracord is sold in 10ft incriments, NOT pre-cut lengths like most other sellers offer. This means less waste of off cuts. So if you want 30ft, then purchase 3 units and in the post you'll receive a single 30ft piece. You are buying the colour as seen above. Not the colour you are looking for? check out our Ebay Shop for more than 40 different colours! No one offers more colours and styles in the UK than 5Star Cord
5Star Cord focuses on supplying a product that's safe and reliable. They source for quality, not the cheapest price on the market like many others do. They know that their cord may be used for survival situations (and has been in the past), where safety is much more important than saving a few pennies or a couple of quid (depending how much you buy). It is used by military personnel on a daily basis where it is relied upon to hold down bashers, camo nets, replace boot laces, support tents and to lash down or repair equipment while in the field. Manufacturers of equipment (especially military) know they can rely on 5Star Cord to perform as it says, making sure their products last, meet standards and not failing. A product that fails means an incovience to the customer and a cost to the manufacturer who has to replace/repair it.
5Star Cords attention to detail means you get a Ultra High Quality product. It is made to 5Star Cords high standards, not just your standard off the shelf GSA Compliant quality. If truth be told there accually is NO Set GSA Compliant Standard, below that of Mil-Spec. The use of the term "GSA Compliant" is just a keyword marketing ploy to make a product sound better, since GSA is related to US Goverment use..not everything the US Goverment buys is top-grade. They often buy the cheapest thing availble that barely scrapes by. Any paracord made below "Mil-Spec" is classed as "Commercial" and there are plenty of different commercial grade qualities.
How is it constructed? Paracord uses a outer woven nylon sheath and a series of inner twisted cores. The outer sheath on 5Star C-550 Paracord is woven extra tight which provides a smooth finish and helps reduce chaffing and snagging. You can use a looser weave to reduce material, which reduces cost, but you get a cord that is more likely to snag and fray. Also a looser weave decreases tensil strength which reduces load capacity/breaking strength and increases stretch factor. The core in 5Star C-550 Paracord uses a seven strand inner core with a tight twist. Technically the seven inner cores is accually fourteen fibres wound in pairs to produce the seven strands. The tighter these twist the stronger the cord. The looser the twist the weaker. These cores serve a number of purposes in survival situations which will be shown below in a list of possible uses. Paracord is rot & mildew resistant. However cheaper grades of paracord use cheaper materials which often seem to fade, stretch overnight and the colours bleed and leach into each other and other materials when wet. Cheaper versions also may not use 100% Nylon and may use a mixture of inner core sizes, counts and materials. All of which can cause strength and degrading issues.
5Star C-550 Paracord has a low stretch factor. This is important if you are using paracord as a guyline on a tent or basher, washline, or to hang a pack in a tree. Cheaper made paracords often will stretch and sag after a short period of time. Meaning constantly adjusting and tightning to hold your kit in place and upright. Those with a high stretch factor often have a high shrink factor. So once they dry out they shrivel up and when used again to hold something tight they slowly stretch back out causing a even greater nightmare than before. This is also important with braids as a high stretch factor means that tight braids and knots could stretch out over a short period of time and loose their shape and visual appeal.
Why is it called paracord and why 550? 550 Paracord gets its "550" status from its breaking strength which originally was 550 pounds. Paracord was developed in WWII for use on parachutes. It was often cut from old chutes and kept for jobs around the camp by the troops. Later it became a standard issued item to many troops. However the term "550 paracord" is now tagged on to cord that "looks like" or is in the "style of" the original parachute line. So just because something is called "550 paracord" or even "paracord" doesn't automatically mean is has a break strength of 550 pounds. Always check this when buying. If the description doesn't say specifically.. then it is a case of asking to clarify and buyer beware.
5Star C-550 Paracord is 100% USA made. Even the fibres used are USA made. Many companies import cheaper made fibres from the far east and then produce the final product in the USA. Classing it as USA made. The end result is a cord that cost cheaper to produce and often made with the price point coming first, quality comes second.
5Star Parcord is made by a single manufacturer. This means that the product quality is consistent from one spool to the next, no matter what the colour. 5Star Cord doesn't source from multiple suppliers just because one is cheaper than the next, like many other seller do. If they did, they know that quality would not be consistent, which means final fit and finish on products wouldn't be equal when made with their cord. Being consistent means that customers can be assured that if they get consistent quality no matter what retailer they buy 5Star Cord from.
What kind of Warranty/Guarantee do I get? 5Star Cord guarantees the product to be free from defects and meet the specifications stated above. Unfortuantly we can't be with you everytime that you use the cord to make sure you have used it properly and responsibly. All of 5Star C-550 Paracord is load tested so we know it will meet at least the 550 pound test plus a bit more, (This doesn't mean that it can be used as a tow rope when your stuck in the middle of a field at Glastonbury!). 5Star Cord also doesn't warranty it against bear or shark attack, nor kids with scissors thinking they are playing with mums left over yarn roll. But if you are abducted by aliens or Big Foot, even though you have used 5Star Cord to tie yourself to a tree, they will replace the cord, in full, free of charge, as long as you provide quality photographic evidence of the aliens or Big Foot.
If I get it and don't like it, can I return it? Unfortuantly due to the fact that we are cutting this to meet your specific requirements it is deemed as bespoke and a non-returnable purchase. So if you aren't sure about a colour or if it would meet the specifications for a specific use, please contact us before ordering for a sample piece.
