TEAM LOTUS CORNER SCALES

These four corner scales (correctly known as Commissariat Scales) were used by Team Lotus in the 1960’s & 70’s to set up the Formula 1 cars for the likes of Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Jackie Oliver, Jochen Rint and Emerson Fittipaldi, also it is feasible that they would still have been in use during the Mansell / Senna era.

Manufactured by Avery of Birmingham each piece has its own wooden box (with a touch of worm) which opens out when in use, each of these takes two men to lift! The front of the bar is marked in Kilogrammes whilst the reverse is in Rolts. John Doran the archivist at Avery has never heard of this measurement so presumably Colin Chapman devised his own to confuse the opposition. Each of the boxes has Team Lotus stencilled on them and the remains of B.O.A.C. labels when air freighted to the circuits.

In general these are in reasonably good condition and were used about ten years ago by a friend to set his car up. Because of the confined space it was difficult to photograph the scales so I have used two images from the Avery catalogue in the pictures. Due to the weight the buyer must collect from the Norfolk / Suffolk border.
