This listing is for another of my collection of banjos that I have accumulated over thirty years. This is a mandolin banjo built by John Grey & Sons in probably between 1920 and 1940. I am not sure of the date. It is signed on a small black placque mounted on top of the headstock which reads John Grey & Sons London. Perhaps this helps with the dating. This really is one of the best preserved that I have come across. The finish on the wood and the chrome plating on the metal parts is really exceptional being virtually unmarked. The vellum is not badly marked as can be seen in the photos. The action at the bottom end of the arm is really good and close to the fretboard. Everything works and is in excellent condition. This mandolin is also a really good user friendly size to play. Overall length is 25inches. Maximum width is 11 1/4 inches across the vellum. It comes with the original case and even the original booklet. I wouldnt call this instrument mint but this really is as good as it gets for an instrument of this age. I have started the bidding quite high because I am not prepared to let an intrument of this quality go for nothing. Any questions please ask. Forgot to add a picture of the front of the instrument. Ebay wouldnt let me add a picture as I listed in quick sell format and four pictures is maximum so I changed the picture of the headstock to one of the front. If you need any more shots e-mail me and I will send them. Thank you. |
