Nico B. van der Waals Quint Baritone (1967) EXF, Brazilian RW, Unique
Nico van der Waals Quint Baritone(bass) 1967 Brazilian Rosewood.
Specifications:
YOM: 1967 Top: German Spruce Back and Sides: Brazilian Rosewood Fingerboard: Ebony Nut Width: 54mm Scale: 710mm
This is a Unique change to purchase a classical quint Baritone tuned (bass) concert guitar from one of the great builders of our time: Nico van der Waals: The Quint Bass is tuned - five notes down (like a baritone), and typically on a aprox. 700mm scale neck. The tuning is A D G C E A. The strings are marginally thicker than a bass's.
Nico van der Waals is considered the foremost important builder these days of early style instruments (Paul O’Dette’s lutes, etc) However he made Guitars on the highest Luthier level for a long time before he made a turn to mainly Early style instruments. This Baritone tuned guitar was "born" in 1967, But is still in immaculate condition. If/when used to normal scale/tuned concert models, this Baritone scaled instrument will immediatly grap you with its punch and power. It is extremely well balanced, and delivers excellent tone in all registers. Nico van der Waals deserves to be better known as a guitar maker of the highest standard. After concentrating on lute and early romantic instruments his name is less heard in the classical world, however still wispered with respect as many famous guitarist own a Nic. B. van der Waals Instrument. This Quint is one of rarely seen masterbuild Quality and maybe considered Museum Quality and extremely rare. They never come up for sale. Why? Simple, not many Luthiers on these level have also that unique ability to build different instruments (Nico van der Waals maybe considered quite a unique luthier here considering his expertise) but also, Brazilian rosewood is no longer available, certainly not in this size, and only a few makers are capable of creating a Quint of this Quality. It features Quartersawn brazilian rosewood back and sides of unique Quality (never seen such a straight grain for a long time) German Spruce soundboard, ebony fingerboard, brazilian rosewood bridge and quality tuners. (not sure who made them) This Quint Baritone guitar shows virtually no wear at all and maybe considered a unique opportunity for any Classical Orchestra to invest in a Unique instrument. Only two are ever made by Nico van der Waals according to my reference. From historic perspective, we only know of Hermann Hauser who made a few on a similar high luthiers level.
Comes with a Excellent Hard shell case.
