I have seven incredible and probably unrecorded photographic images of famous actresses of the day by the contemporary (& next door studio neighbour !) of the great Dorothy Wilding - Janet Jevons. I have just listed six by Wilding from the same set and all were taken to promote the Stage Guild Costume Ball / Three Arts Club events in 1926. The majority are HAND SIGNED in ink by the sitters !! All are backstamped by either Wilding or Jevons and I have photographed them from the reverse through a bright light to confirm that.
I personally think that the Jevons are more interesting images than Wilding. It's amazing that little is known about this lady photographer.
I AM STARTING EACH PHOTO AT A MINIMUM I'M WILLING TO TAKE FOR THEM BASED ON IMAGE QUALITY, SITTER AND CONDITION.
Fourth of the seven by Jevons is :
Clarice Mayne (first of two) (1886 - 1966) - an English variety & music hall star best known for her song 'A Broken Doll' written by her husband, composer James W. Tate and lyricist Frank Clifford Harris.
15.2 x 20.0 cm print on paper mount with info snipe.. An incredible image of Ms Mayne in an extraordinay butterfly costume for the SGC Ball on February 16th 1926.
Excellent condition.
