A fine Bretby oval plate from 1904. It is a fine large example of Bretby's carved bamboo design that was so popular during the Art Nouveau period when all things Japanese were in vogue and promoted at Liberty's. This design is #1509. It was intended for hanging as a wall plaque but it is also impressive as a table dish.
There is one small nick to the edge (at the 11 o'clock position in the first two photographs) which, as the photos indicate, is hardly noticeable. There are two tiny glaze retouches but these require a magnifying glass to find. Finally, there is a chip to the back, at the bottom of the plate, which is shown in picture 4 but this is not visible from the front.
15 inches (385mm) in length and nearly 10 inches (250mm) in width. 1300g in weight. If preferred, can be collected from London (Streatham Hill) or Somerset (Taunton).
