This is a very sad and reluctant sale of our beautifully and fully restored Beetle. We are living in a rented house, and need the money from her for a deposit on a house. She has not been used as our daily runabout, as we think she is too nice to be used in such a way, especially having had such a loving and money no object restoration. Brief History of her. She was found in a barn in Essex, where she had lay since somewhere between 1974 and 1983. The man that owned her had a small accident at the front, which damaged the bumper, front valance and bonnet only (we have pictures to show how light the damage was). He did not have the money to repair it, so she was stored like that for more than twenty years. She was purchased and It was decided to do a complete restoration, as many parts were seized, but bodily she was remarkable, as the pictures of the chassis and body without paint testify. Very little welding has been done, and I challenge anyone to find body filler, fibreglass or cardboard, which most 'restorers' use! Chromework is all as new or has been replaced with new, so no pitting etc. We are on the log book as the first keeper, as she was not registered onto the new DVLA database in 1983, so became lost! The vin plate, chassis number and engine number have not been tampered with, therefore genuine, so you will be the second registered owner. We have a heritage certificate from VW confirming date of manufacture etc. The engine was rebuilt, using new barrels, heads, solex carburettor, heat exchangers, exhaust etc etc. She was low mileage before, but having not been run for such a long period and to put the engine back in an unknown condition was unthinkable. So far she has covered 650 miles since being rebuilt. New parts used are truly too numerous to mention, but interior, carpets, tyres, fuel tank, wings are to name but a few. She is also beautifully standard and unmolested, so treat her as a blank canvas, or enjoy her as we have in glorious originality. She drives like new and is a real head turner. We have not taken her to shows, but feel sure she would do well. To appreciate just how beautiful she is, she must be viewed and driven. If you are dissappointed with her in some justifiable way, I will refund your fuel, I cannot be fairer than that. Any inspection welcome, by any organisation. We have put a very low reserve price to protect our interest, we will not give her away. We will also not send the car abroad for those less scrupulous ebayers out there, nor will we accept part exchanges, payment via an account overseas etc etc. She is being advertised elsewhere, so reserve the right to end the auction early. Bidders with 100% positive and numersous feedback need apply only. Please feel free to call me to discuss any aspects of her. 07764 149740 Good home only please.
On 05-Nov-09 at 22:17:52 GMT, seller added the following information: To those that have bid, I am afraid there is one area of the vehicle which is not standard and that is the brakes. We took the opportunity to replace the front with a disc brake conversion. This is the only item which is not standard, and will understand anyone removing their bids if this is an issue. We simply wanted better stopping capability than that offered by the original drum set up, and forgot to include this in the above description. Thanks. |
