RARE UNUSUAL JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE RARE SIGNATURE MINT

 



THIS ELEGANT EARLY 20th CENTURY JAPANESE 'SATSUMA' VASE IS 12" TALL, HAS NO CHIPS CRACKS OR REPAIRS AND WEIGHS A STAGGERING 2.15Kg.

IT'S DATED TO THE JAPANESE 'TAISHO' PERIOD c1912 - 1926 AND HAS A VERY UNUSUAL SIGNATURE MARK - IT'S EXTREMELY WELL WRITTEN AND OBVIOUS THAT IT'S BY A JAPANESE MASTER AS THE CALLIGRAPHY IS OF THE HIGHEST STANDARD.

THE SIGNATURE MARK APPEARS TO READ FOR THE ARTIST 'SHOZAN' WHO WAS ONE OF THE VERY VERY BEST OF THE PERIOD.

IT'S DECORATED IN CLASSIC SATSUMA STYLE  AND HIGHLY INTRICATE.

THERE IS A RARE AND UNUSUAL FEATURE IN THAT THE WHITE, ON THE OPPOSING FIGURAL PANELS, HAS BEEN APPLIED USING RAISED ENAMELS - I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS BEFORE AND CONSIDER IT TO BE AN OBVIOUS SIGN OF QUALITY.

THE GILDING IS RUBBED ON THE COBALT BLUE AREA'S OF THE VASE WHICH IS QUITE NORMAL.

IT'S IN MINT CONDITION AND THERE ARE NO CHIPS, CRACKS OR AREAS OF RESTORATION.
