The bindings are generally firm although the cords are exposed in a couple of places.  All covers are atatched. Some of the inner hinges are slightly strained but holding an dthe inner hinges of volume IV are holding loosely by the end papers only and may fully detach in the post.  There is some minor wear to the extremiites including some mild marks ot some of the boards and some bumping to the corners and tops and tails of some of the spines.   There are a couple of small tears in the cloth along the hinges.  Internally the books are generally clean and bright apart from some scattered spotting in places affecting some of the plates.  There are some handling marks.  A few of the pages remain uncut.  There are a couple of minor closed tears tot he edges of the maps.
