c1840 OLD SHEFFIELD PLATE STRAWBERRY DISHES-WILKINSON

Made around the 1840 period these super strawberry dishes are of a stylised blossom form with convolutions to complete the design concept. They are slightly different with the wells being of a different diameter and one has the petal divides indented whereas to the other they are in relief, although the rims exactly match when the dishes are stacked together. They are raised on three small disc feet and sport neatly rolled edges to the rim. The well is undecorated. They could be used as coasters.

         

Only one is marked but it is reasonable to suggest that both were made around the same time and by Henry Wilkinson.

          

They are in very good condition for their age, there is some usewear, one has radiating linear bleeds to the relief of the 'petals'; the other has just very small signs of usewear. The uppers have been polished to a highly reflective gleam which is difficult to photograph without numerous reflections, we hope you are able to get a good impression of their condition despite this intrusion. The undersides appear to have been left unpolished for decades, perhaps never polish but do show evidence of having been silvered rather than tinned.
