A Young Golf Player

Original Oil Painting on Canvas Board

by Paul Musin (Continental 20th/21st Century)

Manner of Sir Thomas Lawrence RA

A very fine oil painting depicting a full lenght portrait of a young boy holding a golf club in a rural landscape by highly regarded continental artist Paul Musin painted in the manner of Sir Thomas Lawrence.  The painting is in pristine condition, it is presented in a fine 19th century style wood and gilt composite frame which is in very good condition.  The painting is signed lower right.

Paul Musin is a highly regarded living artist who specilises in copies and pastiches of the work of some of the greatest artist's of the 18th and 19th centuries.  His work is increasingly collectable and is regularly offered for sale by leading auction houses, most frequesntly by Christie's in their British and Continental Picture sales at South Kensington where Musin's work realises up to around £1,500.

Musin's work makes many hundreds and often thousands of pounds at auction.  Please see the snapshots of recent auction results in the photograph section below.  A very similar painting by Musin sold for $950 USD plus buyers premium earlier this year at an auction house in the USA - around £700 including buyer's premium.

This superb work measures;

Picture:      41cm(16") x 31cm(12")

Frame:       59cm (23") x 51cm (20")

Art as an Investment

In these uncertain financial times tangible assets such as gold and art are being recommended as a safer alternative to stocks and shares by many leading experts.

“Companies go bust, artists don’t,” said David Douglas an Irish art expert of the recent economic turmoil.

Damien Hirst's phenomenally successful sale at Sotheby's recently illustrates that high end art is able to prosper in an economic downturn.  Less well publicised are the examples of the many thousands of lesser known artists whose work continues to increase in price when offered at auction.
