Yellow vintage 50s net swing petticoat, 12/14


Description

This is a widely flared yellow petticoat, from the 1950s or thereabouts. It has a cotton panel over the hips, with the elastic at the waist contained in a casing, and then three panels of chiffon net – each tightly gathered beneath the last to give the petticoat dramatic flare. There is a 1” cream lace trim to the hemline.

Condition

I think this petticoat may have been modified or repaired at some point: it looks like the cotton panel at the hips, and the elastic, is a more recent addition. The elastic emerges from the casing at the back of the waist, and is safety pinned together. This is simply unfinished – it could easily be sewn – but it currently has the advantage of being adjustable. The petticoat is otherwise in good condition, and has been freshly laundered.
