The fact is, there are different types of colourblindness.  And some people may not be colourblind at all.  They simply have a tougher time distinguishing various shades of a given colour than someone with sharper colour acuity.

The Farnsworth-Munsell 100-Hue Test is one of the most widely used tests in industries where colour decisions are critical.  Over the years, the test has also been used in clinical applications for the study of ocular disease and other medical conditions such as diabetes and Parkinson's disease.  It's also been used to determine the affects of various pharmaceuticals on colour vision.

Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Test has been used for over 50 years as the definitive standard for testing colour discrimination - your ability to discriminate between various shades of a given colour.  The test will tell if you're good, average or poor at discriminating colour.

Here's how it works...

First, you'll need a controlled daylight light source such as a colour viewing booth.

Then, you arrange four trays of coloured caps in hue order.  There's a predetermined sequence for each tray.  The closer you are to the correct sequence, the better your colour discrimination.

What do the results reveal?

The results will tell you two things:

For normal colour vision, it reveals how well you discriminate different colours.

It indicates if you have a color vision defect and identifies where your color confusion lies.  For example if you're a "protan," then you would have weak red colour discrimination.  But if you're weakness lies in the green colour discrimination area, then you would be a "deutan."
