What Is It & What Does It Do?
This kit provides a simple, well designed external container to collect and contain the waste ink dumped during a "head cleaning" routine, by your Epson printer. All you have to do is modify your printer to install it.
A "Service Required" Solution?
Most Epson desktop printers have been built with a printhead that is capable of lasting decades (with proper care) but it has one achilles heel in it's handling of waste ink. Epson printers waste considerable amounts of ink into its waste pads which sooner or later need emptying. When the printer decides it's full, it will flash up a message "Parts inside the printer have reached the end of their service life".
Normally replacing these pads is expensive, and very difficult to complete by anyone other than a qualified service technician because of the way the printers are designed. OctoInkjet kits are designed to make it cheaper and simpler to redirect all the waste into a sealed, secure box (with a tiny vent hole - see below) which is easy to empty, clean and re-use with minimal mess.
Once installed, all you need to do, is reset the waste ink counter, dispose of the waste ink from time to time and you're good to go.
Resetting the Waste-Ink / Protection Counter?
Fitting a kit does not automatically clear the waste ink counter on your printer. Instead a utility is required to complete the reset before you can use your printer again.
As part of our support I do provide up-to-date resources and information on where to find the necessary utility for your printer.
This information is constantly being updated so please contact me if you are unsure if your particular printer is supported.
Note: See end of listing re: R1900/R2880 reset support
The most popular (the SSC utility) is easily located free on the internet using the keywords: "ssc epson reset".
Other OctoInkjet Kits?
I am slowly developing new kit designs that suit different printer and user requirements but the primary alternative to the Box kits are the "Bag" type with a lighter, fully enclosed mylar bag as the tank.
Which is better?
The WIBOX kits are comparable with the bag kits in terms of features but they would definitely be more appropriate for heavy printer users that dump/purge considerable amounts of waste ink. The key bonus of the box design is that there's no need to vent any air, whereas the bag kit will need venting as an occasional maintenance task..
Design Features:
- The valve closes automatically when the waste tube fitting is unscrewed
- A tight liquid proof seal around the fitting stops any leakage
- Vent hole (tiny) to allow any air out automatically (No need to vent a bag regularly).
- The location and size of the vent hole allows for accidents as the waste tank can effectively fall and hang from the waste tube with minimal, if any, spillage.
- Box and Bag parts are interchangeable with each other so you can easily change tank type if you wish
- The kits are not single use items. You can re-use them again and again, and even on other compatible printers
- Low profile box is very stable and difficult to knock over.
Compatibility
Please note:
- This list is not exhaustive, so please contact me if you are unsure.
- Asia, North American & European models differ from UK models in model number but are often the same printer type
- The R200, R300, RX, C and D models have ONE waste ink tubes that requires a different kit... Please see my other listings.
Note: The "vent" part that was included in earlier box kits is no longer provided as it is no longer required.
Please Note: R1900, R2880 printers
Owners of these models in the USA/Canada can obtain the necessary reset utility from Epson directly (information available on request).
Anyone outside of this Epson sales zone will need to approach an Epson validated service technician to have their printer reset as the utility is not available to non North American customers.
BX600FW / Workforce 600 printers
These printers still do not have a valid reset utility available. This kit can be purchased as a pro-active measure but remember this can affect your warranty with Epson.
