Walnut - 'Broadview' Seedling One plant
Yes you can grow walnuts in the UK, and they have a much better taste when fresh. Can start producing when ony 3 ft tall. This variety is ideally suited for a more smaller garden.
The grafted versions retail at upwards of £40 each, so grab a bargain. These are seedlings and should inherit the charateristics of its parents.
Broadview is a large nut, old variety, hardy, increasingly productive as it ages, late leafing in the spring, walnut blight resistant, from Okanogan in British Columbia, Canada, parent origin believed to be from Southern Russia.
A decidious tree grows to 20m by 20m at a medium rate. It is in flower in June, and the seeds ripen in October. The scented flowers are monoecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but both sexes can be found on the same tree) and are pollinated by Wind. The plant is self-fertile.
This nut tree is better suited to cold climates than many of the other cold climate nuts. It is hardy to zone 5, but you should try to avoid frost pockets.
Requires deep well-drained loam but will grow in any soil and a sunny position sheltered from strong winds and late frosts.
The Walnut tree wood is hard and strong, stable, lightweight, shock-resistant, flexible. It shrinks and swells less than almost any other wood. It's sweet to work, lovely to smell, delightful to handle, and takes a splendid finish.
Please note that these have been grown with no chemicals used, and as such the leaves may have imperfections etc, and might have some livestock attached to them.
You are bidding for 1 unpotted plant approx 20 to 30 cms tall
