Most items are partly cleaned in our workshop to prevent any
corrosion continuing whilst in transit, but quite often left alone.
I will describe the condition briefly without being too detailed,
based on my experience as a UK collector since 1964, but please study the
photographs. Conditions are as we find in the UK, other countries have higher
and lower expectation levels, but keep in mind these are Military items which
have seen service in all climes, and have passed through many generations hands
since issued.
Perfectionists or new collectors not experienced in handling items of
great age please do not bid unless you are sure. I will not refund to and from
International post charges.
Keep in mind as collectors these weapons etc., are running out all
the time, they will not be available in a few years time, or the Laws will
change more, prices are rising from all sellers due to Ebay and their own
running costs. I do not usually accept offers due to Ebay/Paypal charges and
having to rise at un-earthly early hours and drive hundreds of Km's/miles,
resulting in 16-18 hour days sometimes.
Some of our stock plus other different pieces are posted on our
growing Web Site, plus we store images of present and past sales on
"Photobucket.com" under the member names: arms-of-the-past &

A seriously well made bayonet with its large wide single
edged blade, fits all Mauser models. Examples brought back to the UK in WW1 and
publicised brought about the name of the 'Butcher Blade'. A good variety of
makers and issue dates can be found, and also examples brought back from France
can be placed to an area of combat quite often.
First models had
a higher muzzle ring surround, no flash-guard and were fitted into leather and
steel mounted scabbards, all metal scabbards gradually replaced these. Blades
were also made with a saw-back for Engineer and Pioneer battalions, plus
variations were done by removal of the back spine saw teeth. 2nd models have a
trimmed lower muzzle ring and the fitting of a flash-guard plate.
The Gew98 Rifle
in 7.92mm cal. clip loading magazine nitro rifle is extremely strong and
beautifully designed for combat with a superb bolt mechanism, copied by other
Nations in their own various forms and for top grade hunting rifles. Made under
contract for other European and South American countries these usually take
their own design of bladed & hilted bayonet, although same slot fit.
Of the new
generation of 20th.Century tough weapons they saw service everywhere in the
World and were widely exported. At the close of Hostilities for Germany in 1919
most were exported , some kept for re-issue as home defence units. On the
Western Front nearly all were destroyed by order, the low numbers that are in
the UK are classified as Soldiers pick-ups.
