Wintergreen is placed in children's pillows to protect them and grant them good fortune throughout their lives. When sprinkled in the home it removes hexes and curses, especially when mixed with mint. It is also utilized in healing spells.

Background: Wintergreen has been prized by Native American herbalists for its many uses. It has been prescribed for the treatment of joint pain, back pain, headaches, fever, and other common problems. During the Revolutionary War, wintergreen was popular as a substitute for black tea leaves. Now wintergreen is used often for digestive problems and joint pain. It contains salicylic acid and therefore has some of the properties of aspirin.
Wintergreen is primarily used as an anti-inflammatory.
Joint pain: Wintergreen can be used to soothe joint pain from arthritis and rheumatism.
Digestive system: Wintergreen can be used to treat colic and excess gas.
External use: Essential oil of wintergreen can be used as a liniment for sore muscles and joints. It can also treat bacterial infections of the skin.

Wintergreen is a shrub that is native to North America. It has green leaves and small white flowers. The leaves and the fruit of the plant are harvested in the summer for medicinal use.

Can be taken as a tea or essential oil.
Safety: Do not take essential oil internally. Do not use oil on children. Do not take if you are sensitive or allergic to aspirin. Consult your health care provider before beginning use of any herb.
