Book Description: Methuen and Co, London, 1931. Cloth. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 38th Edition. 8vo - 7.5 Inches. A rare copy of the first Shepard illustrated edition, signed by both illustrator and author. Upon publication of the Shepard illustrated trade edition a limited edition signed version was published signed by both illustrator and author. This copy is the normal trade edition signed by both, which is a much rarer find signed by both than the limited signed edition. A near fine copy bound in original green cloth with gilt spine titles and gilt vignette to front cover. Very minor shelfwear to extremities but overall very tidy. Map endpapers. Signed by both Grahame and Shepard in fountain pen under their names on the title page. (6), 312 pages + 8 pages ads at rear. A very tidy copy throughout and extremely scarce in this signed state. The most sought after printing of The Wind in the Willows after the first edition of 1908. Copies signed by Grahame, aside from the limited signed editions, are scarce.
