Hi,
This is my Westfield SEW Racecar which raced in the 2006 & 2007 & 2008 seasons in Westfield BARC championship. I put the car through SVA before converting it toWestfield BARC race spec. I've now returned it to road spec (handbrake, radiator fan, passenger seat....) with MOT but left all the race kit in place! Buyers can use it as racecar, track day screamer or blat it about on the roads!
The car has the lightweight chassis & lightweight bodywork & detachable rear wheel arch options from the Factory. The bodywork has been cut to allow easy access to all components whilst at the circuit. All panels use dzus fasteners for quick release & secure fitting. Photo number 8 shows the cut on the rear bodywork that allows the rear to be detached to allow easy access for diff changes. It takes about thirty minutes to remove the rear bodywork with two guys (not rushing). The car has the 25litre fuel tank which is mounted according to BARC regs - above back axle and nearer the centre of mass - for both safety and better handling. No boot is fitted instead the space is covered by a carbon panel. The roll cage is detachable should you wish to remove it, however it adds substantial strength to the the chassis.
The car has been set up Track Developments for one 80kg person in the driving seat at a chassis ride height of 4". The sump & gearbox bellhousing are higher and protected by the chassis hoop under the tail of the gearbox. The dampers are AVO single adjustable with rose joints either end. The wishbones are the factory semi-wide rose jointed type. A high angle rose joint connects to the top of the upright with a traditional ball joint at the base. The factory anti-roll bar is also fitted. The rear has the live axle with a rose jointed panhard rod. The drive shafts are true (checked by local machine shop) and of the lighter variety (not the RS ones) and have been machined to allow fitment of disc brakes rather than shoes. Longer wheel bolts are fitted to allow adjustment of rear track with wheel spacers.
The engine was brand new 2.5k miles ago and has been fitted with ARP conrod bolts (big end caps have been reamed to size). Scholar Engines provided the lightened flywheel and clutch and one of their low line baffled sumps. Fueling & ignition is by Alpaha Webber (as per BARC regulations) utilising DCOE 40's with 36mm chokes set up by Northampton Motorsport. The engine is protected by a 35psi oil pressure switch connected to an indicator size warning light on the dash - see photo 2. The Raceline water rail has been fitted to clean up pipework included in the cooling system - no expansion tank required! AWestfield Factory oil catch tank is fitted - a requirement for most track days. A red top fuel pump is used in conjunction with a filter king before the engine and a more standard in line fuel filter before the fuel pump. The engine produces 155bhp at 6400rpm which is spot on for the spec. Radtec radiators have provided the upgraded radiator which keeps the car cool even in a hot summer race at Brands!
The engine is mated to a type 9 gearbox with a TranX straight cut gear conversion. Makes a beautiful noise :) The gears are 2.25, 1.63, 1.23, 1. The current final drive is a 3.54.
Guages (electronic) and mirrors are by Racetech. They include 8k rpm tacho with a high rev memory button, oil pressure guage and a water temp guage which I utilize at the flick of a switch to read both oil & water temperature. For SVA & MOT I use a Sigma BC800 speedo - this has a max speed tell tale which is very useful track side! All guages are mounted on a carbon dash which has the rounded bottom edge for SVA / safety. Mirrors are the extended stem F1 side mirror and convex RVM in black.
The car utilizes cortina front brakes (as per BARC regs) and Rally Design's English axle disc conversion kit for the rear's. A brake bias bar is fitted. Wheels are Compomotive CXR's in black shod with Dunlop SP Sport 160/535 R13's (dry). A second set of CXR's & Dunlop's comes with the car. Both sets of tyres have good amounts of tread remaining.
The car comes with the following spares: ali gearbox bellhousing (RS), spare standard gearbox, two drive shafts - machined to suit disc brakes and with long wheel bolts and new bearings, two zetec engine gasket sets and twenty valves (ebay buys that were never used), various gaskets for gearbox and diff (Escort), BRAND NEW 4*Avon Turbospeed CR28 205/60 not on rims, spare bonnet (dropped a wheel on it in the garage, useable but tardy), bench seat for testing larger drivers, V8 wheel arch (just to see what it would look like - bit too wide!).
The car is available for viewing in the Swindon area. If you want to test drive then I'll require insurance cover, some experience with this type of car and intent to buy - a dry day also helps :) Feel free to contact me via email on geoffrey.fairburn (AT) ntlworld.com
