Description:
An excellent cottage scene watercolour on artist's paper, signed "W.R. Young" and dating circa 1900 - 1920. Framed - approx 15 X 19 inches (38.1 X 48.26cm).

This is an excellent English School watercolour dating from the early 20th Century period.
The cottage scene depicts a classic image of a 'chocolate box' English timbered Tudor thatched cottage thought to be "Anne Hathaway's Cottage" in Stratford-upon-Avon. The unmetalled road sweeps around the building, chickens pecking on the roadside. To the left a picket fence forms the boundary of the cottage garden abundant with summer flowers and plants. The pretty timbered cottage has been beautifully painted, its tall brick chimneys towering from the thatched roof. A lovely idyllic classic English School village scene.
The work is signed "W.R. Young" lower right.

The watercolour probably dates to around 1900 - 1920.
Framing:
Contemporary classic scroll and floral moulded Gesso work. Finish: Gilt.
The watercolour is mounted on board and has a gilt mount.
Condition:
The painting is in good condition for its age, retaining good colouring. The frame has a few chips, dings and pieces of moulding missing consistent with age and this type of delicate material.
