Vintage Sanyo Receiver: JCX-2300K, Classic '70s, Retro!

Here we have a classic receiver from the late 1970s – the Sanyo JCX 2300K.

It’s rated at approximately 30W RMS per channel into 8Ω (both channels driven), rising to over 40W into 4Ω.  This will be more than adequate for a typical domestic environment, using conventional loudspeakers.

Operation is simple and straightforward.  Features include:  AM (MW only), FM, phono (RIAA), AUX and 2 x tape monitor with cross-dubbing.  Two pairs of speakers can be accommodated (of not less than 8Ω each if used simultaneously).

The controls have a smooth, slick feel to them, enhanced by the chunky, machine-finished metal knobs.  The fascia is formed from a solid alloy block and the tuning window is real glass!  The wooden cover is gunmetal grey metallic, which may or may not be original.  All controls operate silently, all dial lamps and indicators light up as they should and there are no faults.  (The tuning knob has a slight wobble but spins freely enough.) 

Sound quality is excellent, being effortless, transparent and neutral (including the FM tuner section, but as always, you'll need a band II roof antenna for best results).

It was rated “good value” in the Which? Guide to Tuner/Amplifiers (c.1978), where it was pitched against 100 or so competing models.  Remember, this was an era when standards were high!

As you see from the pictures it’s in fair condition cosmetically, despite a few blemishes here and there.  I am confident that this receiver would do somebody a good turn for many years, although of course due to its age I cannot offer any form of guarantee.
