This is an outstanding King Tempo model Trumpet and a top-quality instrument by King Musical Instruments Company. The King tradition of excellence goes back to 1893, when Sunday concerts in the park were plentiful and the blare of trumpets in minstrel bands sent shivers down the spine of anyone within hearing distance. Over the years King gained recognition and became one of the top Trumpet and Brass makers in the US. Since 1985, the King legend has continued under the UMI name (now Conn-Selmer), making it a strong voice in the music instrument industry of today and tomorrow. The serial number is 425405 (which should date the horn to about 1965) and the logo on the horn says “KING Tempo, The H N White Co., Cleveland O.”. This was the last year that King made horns in the Cleveland plant before moving to Eastlake Ohio. It has a beautiful two tone finish with the body and bell in Nickel-silver with epoxy lacquer and the slides and fittings in satin brass. When this horn came out it was designed for the advanced player to semi-pro player. It has a .458” bore and a 4 3/4” bell. There are only some small scratches in the lacquer over the nickel plate and a few tiny body dings that I have tried to show in the pictures (the scratches are hard to see but you can make them out in the close-ups as I lit the horn to show them). The slides were worn so I stripped the old lacquer and bead blasted them into a fantastic satin finish. They also have two coats of clear lacquer on them. The horn is a beauty and looks great and plays fantastic even though it is 44 years old. I have played this horn as my main church axe and it has a wonderful tone, and a nice mellow smooth sound (Melanie said I sound great on this horn, lol, as always). The horn plays almost like my Conn Constellation but a bit darker! It plays with great intonation and power throughout the range! It's in excellent condition - all the tuning slides work smoothly, including the first and third which are usually frozen and require some kind of repair. I have put on new “O” rings to quiet the third valve slide upon return when using the ring. There are NO missing pull tabs (rare in a used horn). The valves work freely and spring back into place with ease and I have installed new felts and springs in them. The spit valves have also been re-corked. There is a very small ding in the lead pipe that is hard to see unless you look closely. There are a lot of very small scratches from normal wear, but no missing nickel plate. Up close the horn overall rates about a 9.25 out of 10, but from across the stage it is a solid 10. The trumpet comes with a Schilke 15 mouthpiece. This is a large cup all around piece that gives the horn an open blow and plays very full. You also get the FANTASTIC NEW Gator gig case, which you see in the pictures. The case has a large storage pocket on the outside. It is black mesh ripstop, with the Gator logo, on the outside. It has a shoulder strap and handle to carry it regular case style. The inside is well padded and the zippers all have pull cords attached. This is a solid bag to protect this wonderful horn! I want to keep this one but I now have over 90 horns in my collection and cannot possibly play them all! After I played this one for the last several weeks, I feel this one deserves to be played every day! This is your chance - why spend upwards of $800 for a trumpet (UMI has several student models now that go for $550-750) when you can pick this up for a lot less than that? I have seen this horn used on several websites for $350-500 and they didn’t look half as good. Take a look...it’s a great horn for a student, intermediate player, comeback player, or advanced player that wants a horn that looks completely different. Winning Bidder pays shipping of $23.00(Insured).
Don’t miss your chance to get a H N White made trumpet that is in Fantastic shape and plays Wonderfully!!!
