For auction is this old antique vintage oval tapestry like floral piece. The black background fabric appears to be a silk . . . It measures overall 17 high by 14 wide. The colors are bright and vivid. A bright orange poppy like flower curves down at the top with multi toned leaves and spikey fronds in the center. Cream, greens, rust, browns and the bright red orange are used to define the other flowers, branches and leaves. A gold metallic thread is used to define the basket like bowl that holds the arrangement. The fabric has been stored flat, but an area on the right side has split over the years as pictured. The fabric needs to be mounted to disguise this ... The flowers and leaves have an embroidered quality with lots of details. The background thread is overstitched with contrasting colors to define and add interest. A really beautiful old piece of stitchery probably Victorian. Note wear to edges of the fabric as well.
