A gorgeous coloured antique Welsh blanket from the Swansea Valley , woven at the turn of the Twentieth centuru. a light weight excellent quality drill woven cloth. in unusual & contemporary colourways of Taupe bisected by cream , Leaf green , Tea Rose Pink and a very narrow Gold band, makiing up the traditional plaid. Machined edges. it measures 94" x 66" so easily covers a single or would look fabulous layerd across a double or draped over the sofa. in great condition , clean & ready to use, it has a few neat darns consistant with its age. interestingly sewn down the centre using herringbone stitch. It was probably sent back to the farmer in two pieces and sewn by his wife.
These are the collectable Welsh blankets , two pieces of Welsh cloth made on a small hand loom and then hand sewn together to form a large blanket. Prededing the later power looms of the Twentieth century. These are relics of a true cottage Industry in wales. Produced for the local community by rural weavers from fleece & wool processed on the farm.All of these looms had gone by the 1950s , most by 1930.something to treasure & hand down.
