Identifying Marks on Thumb Plate: BROWN'S PATENT MADE IN ENGLAND 642379

Materials: turned wooden handle; brass collar; grey metal needle and thumb plate with metal spring

The metal mainly clean and bright.  The handle is rather darkened from use but is very smooth and comfortable to hold.

It has a good point and the jaws fit neatly together.  The spring is mainly bright and the jaws open wide to grasp fabric.  It is a particularly good tool.

I am including my own photograph instructions to explain the method of pulling strips of fabric through hessian backing to make rag rugs..
