***WOW!*** This is a RARE find! Offered for Sale is this Wonderful Vintage Kitchen Plaque by Contemporary Artist Marlene Siff ( www.marlenesiff.com ), created in 1972! The plaque measures about 16" wide by about 8 and 1/4" tall.
I was on the phone with her studio, located in Westport, Conneticut, and was told that this was one of her early works; that there was a series of these plaques, and that it likely sold for about $3.00 back in the early seventies. I was also told that because so many clients have come into her gallery and inquired about the availibility of these plaques, as women in their thirties and forties remember these from their own mother's kitchens, they may be reissued! THIS IS THE REAL THING! On the back of the plaque is a small label that reads: Original Designs by Marlene Westport, Conneticut Manufactured by JALEM PLAQUE CO., INC. 3501 36th AVE., L.I.C. ( Long Island City, located in Queens County), N.Y. There is an attached metal hanger fastened to the back.
There is a bit of wear to the prange border on the edges. The top is flawless. On the back, the lower left corner of the masonite board is slightly damaged. That damage is lmited to the baxk and measures about 1/8" by 7/8" in length. There is minimal loss of the masonite in this damage. Again, it is not visible from the front. The back also has some light abrasions, none that damage the surface. The board has a "hint" of a warp, barely discernible. That's it.
If this doesn't sell, I may keep it. Ms. Siff is a fairly prolific artist, and has an impressive resume. This is an excellent example of her early work; she's since gone in a totally different direction. If you appreciate art from the seventies, if you remember this hanging on the kitchen wall, or you can see the potential of owning an original, don't allow this one to slip by... BID!
