An excellent quality, set of six stainless steel dessert or side knives, in the Chelsea pattern, by Viners of Sheffield. Chelsea was designed by the great silversmith, Gerald Benney, for Viners in the 1960s. The pattern consists of shiny blades, and long, elegant matt, or satin brushed handles. Chelsea cutlery was a favourite of style icon, Mary Quant.
These are 1960s issue knives, and are marked to the blade " VINERS OF SHEFFIELD STAINLESS ENGLAND".
The pieces are in very good condition, with minimal signs of use. As so often happens with vintage Viners Chelsea knives, there are a couple of tiny holes from pitting. Due to the obvious little use that these knives have experienced, I would imagine that the pitting was a manufacturing problem. I am not sure if the Chelsea pattern had monoblock knives - a difficult and pioneering method of knife construction in the 1960s, where knives were made from one piece of metal instead of two - this new process could have caused pitting in some early Chelsea knives.
They are shiny, heavy, good quality, and perfectly useable! Measuring approximately 7 3/4" long. Supplied with original box, which is a bit rubbed to the exterior. Viners Modernist cutlery from this era is becoming pretty collectable, and is a good investment, as well as being practical, high-quality, and easy on the eye!
Please do not hesitate to ask, if you have any questions. Multiple purchases will gain large postage discounts. We are happy to post internationally, as long as the item is not too large or neavy to go via Airmail, otherwise it gets very expensive and complicated - please ask for a postage quote. We are slowly trying to add listings to our new shop, please bear with us! We specialise in cutlery, and probably will have a few listings relating to that, otherwise, we will be offering interesting or attractive vintage items, which should be worth a look!
