Villeroy Boch Mettlach Charger Wall Plate - Middle Ages Castle Scene

Measures 16" diameter, weighs 2.4kg unpackaged

Stunning large stoneware plaque by Villeroy Boch Mettlach.  It has the impressed date code for 1898 and the abbey backstamp.  The pattern number is 1048.  There is a middle ages castle scene in the background, I have seen somewhere on the web this pattern referred to as 'The crowning of Carl the Great By Pope Leo III' (aka Charlemagne) I am not 100% about this but the subject matter certainly seems to fit.

It is very intricate and detailed with alot of work gone into it.  It is in very good condition, there are some small areas on the rim where the brown colouring has come off and the stoneware below shows through (the largest is only 4mm - see closeup photo) these really are minute and dont detract from the itwem at all.  Otherwise it is in fantastic condition with no wear, repair, or damage.
