On offer here is a wonderful example of Victorian / Edwardian linen work. The piece for sale is a table cover the centre linen being approx. 36" square with a 2" crochet/lace border. The work is exceptional - there are large corner sections in pulled thread work pic 1, so intricate to undertake and these are centred with Ayrshire embroidery in the form of shamrocks as in pic 2. Then on the edge there is the very delicate crochet/lace work border. Condition: there are no major damages to the cloth ie tears, rips, repairs or damages to the pulled threads. There are 3 light coloured stains which I am sure someone used to these early cloths will launder expertly but I do not intend to wash the cloth myself and leave this to the purchaser to deal with. I would only add that they in no way detract from the overall appearance of the cloth I merely mention for accurate reporting. Bid with confidence on this fine example of early linen work. Successful bidder, please pay within 3 days of auction ending, many thanks and happy bidding. |
