Victorian Tunbridge Walnut Domed Sewing Jewellery Box

Excellent condition.

This box from the mid-Victorian period (1860 – 1880) has been sympathetically restored and re-polished, but to leave an authentic look without being over restored to look like a reproduction.

It is how an original box of this age would look, with minimal age-related marks, but without pieces of veneer missing and cracks which tend to appear on boxes of this age stored in heated houses.

The box has a beautiful walnut veneer, which is beautifully figured along with Mother of Pearl escutcheon and cartouche.

Tunbridge-style banding in an unusual design adorns the outside.

The interior has been re-lined in a traditional lining paper depicting the Fleur-de-Lys pattern in white and gold.

The tray has several useful compartments to store jewellery or cotton reels and other sewing aids depending on what you want to box to be used for.

There is a working lock and an original Victorian key, but this would need a bit of tweaking to turn the lock.

The underneath has been fitted with a cotton gauze to protect furniture from scratching.

All in all a very presentable box which would make a lovely present for Christmas.
