Victorian Mahogany Gillows Sutherland Table ca 1870 This beautiful Victorian mahogany Sutherland table has been constructed in the style and quality of a Gillows piece. The piece has two shaped drop leaves with moulded edges, stands on beautiful turned reeded legs with reeded supports, has a turned cross stretcher and small wooden castors. Two of the legs swing out to support the leaves. The piece is very compact when folded and opens to a very usable size. The piece is a rich red mahogany colour with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing. Height 70cms/27.5inches Width 80cms/31.5inches Closed 18cms/7inches Fully open 109cms/43inches Ref No 02058
Items of this age and quality are becoming very rare to find and they are not just a beautiful piece of furniture but also a very good investment. A piece of furniture of this quality should sell for around £1500. In a London antique shop it would have a price tag of well over £2000.
