This Victorian Blue John and Marcasite Silver Money Clip is Circa 1900 The semi-precious mineral "Blue John" or "Derbyshire Spar" is mined from The Blue John Cavern which is one of the four show caves in Castleton, Derbyshire, England.
Today there is very little Blue John waiting to be harvested, and although it is still mined during the winter months in Castleton, only small pieces suitable for jewellery are found.
This money clip is largely purple with a yellow stripe which is unusual because at best Blue John is purple, but very often the predominant colour is either white or yellow with narrow purple veins or bands, or even no purple at all.
The Blue John in the money clip is surrounded by original Marcasites or “Black Diamonds”
The money clip is hallmarked Silver
This is a gorgeous money clip that looks fabulous
It weighs 7.3 grams
It measures 32mm across by 15mm down – that’s 1 ¼ inches by ½ an inch |
