A very rare Original Folding Pocket Kodak camera for 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 exposures on 105 rollfilm made between August and December only in 1897. This is the first model in a long series of No.1 Folding Pocket Kodak cameras. The camera is in very good cosmetic condition and working order.
Fitted with a working single speed and T shutter with two aperture stops. The lens is clear and the viewfinders are usable. Good body, leather and brass and excellent red square corner bellows and folding mechanism.
McKeown's lists the following features to identify the Original Folding Pocket Kodak of 1897:
Recessed wooden cone lens opening.
All brass metal parts are unplated.
Four small openings on the front face with two finders.
No locking clasp for the back.
Patent Pending.
Flat bar for horizontal standing but no vertical.
This camera has all the above features except it says "Patent Applied For" rather than pending.
Brian Coe's book "Kodak Cameras, The First Hundred Years" says the locking case catch was fitted in December 1897 from serial number 5101, however this camera is serial number 5450 and has no locking catch.
You won't find many of these on Ebay and certainly not in this condition. An exceptionally rare find for the collector and offered at a low starting price with no reserve.
