Velocette LE
To the best of my knowledge and research I believe this to be a 50's Mk1,
the only engine number I can locate is 2725 on the top case,
As I can not be absolutly positive I am listing as a Mk1/Mk11
Water cooled motorcycle, Ex Police bike, Registration BFB 418,
I dont have any paperwork or documentation
10228 miles, Engine Stuck
Requires Restoration
I believe this bike was used as a part of a shop display in Henleys London a long time ago, and been in storage for a long time, I have only recently aquired this bike, I purchased it as a project but decided it was beyond my capability.

I've had LE's since my 1949 Mk1 (in 1960 in Oldham) I still have two Mk111's and a Venom here with me in Canada!
My info puts your engine 2725 somewhere in 1949 by interpolation from my records e.g. First LE engine No. 1001 1948, No. 6374 in 1950 and last Mk1 No.8500 also 1950
Your frame I suspect is a Mk11, most probably 1953 because Mk1's (1949/50) had a black headlamp while the Mk11 1951-54 was silver grey. Your frame has an access hole on the left side (cover missing) introduced in 1953 and deleted in 1954 so I think this dates it accurately. The frame no. was only stamped on a plate in the toolbox. The Mk1 had 3/4" wide brake shoes F & R while the R was increased to 1" in '53 and F in '54 try measuring, You have an external oil filter which the Mk1 didn't have! The Mk1 Roller bearing crankshaft was replaced in the 1953 Mk11 by a pressurised plain bearing crank when the filter was first fitted.
Frames and Engines were built separately and assembly would involve fitting older engines to newer frames and vise visa.
