Vector-based 2D Animation Software       "Synfig" Film-Quality 2D Vector Animation     Save up to £570 Synfig Studio is a vector based 2D animation program. It is designed to be capable of producing feature-film quality animation. It eliminates the need for tweening, preventing the need to hand-draw each frame. Synfig Studio features spatial and temporal resolution independence (sharp and smooth at any resolution or framerate), high dynamic range images, and a flexible plugin system. The app seems to be able to do most--if not all--that its expensive Flash cousin can do, at least as far as animation goes. Features include spatial and temporal resolution independence, pen tablet-sensitive tools, path-based gradients, layering, and an interface that's modular, allowing you to maximize screen real estate. It would be nice to see some more shape tools in future versions, but for a animator that doesn't devour your system resources, Synfig is absolutely worth trying. In Synfig, the construct for describing shapes is called a Bline. This is roughly analogous to a "path" in other programs, except that it is strictly a hermite spline.   Creating an animation in Synfig is really easy: It basically means to change a drawing - you just need to create the first state and the last state of a change, and Synfig will take care of the steps in between. Please Read Synfig does not create .swf files. It uses sifz files that can not be played in the Flash Player. If you're looking for a file to include on a web page, rendering to an animated gif file does work. For mpg, there are a couple of options - You can use the ffmpeg target to render to an mpg file. If you want more control over the final video file, the best solution may be to render to a sequence of png files and use a separate program, such as the command line version of ffmpeg, to assemble them to a video file.
