Pretty Victorian wall mirror which I believe dates from the Arts and Crafts period.
This small mirror has a beaten metal/silver surround which looks very similar to William Morris wallpaper design from the late 1800’s.
The design has a dotted ground with raised Marigolds and stylised foliage. I believe the decorative metal band would have been made on a long strip, it is hallmarked at intervals, four strips have been used around the mirror, this is held in place with tiny panel pins. The ‘hallmark’ is shown in close up, if anyone can identify it I will add the info to my listing.
The mirror glass is original with a bevelled edge, some foxing to the silver backing near base.
The mirror is also edged with red velvet this is now very worn, but the original rich red plush can still seen in places. There are two filled holes on the bottom of the frame, possibly made by hooks which held hairbrushes.
There are two metal hanging hooks at the top.
The mirror frame was very dirty, I have cleaned it gently but not so much as to spoil its antique appearance.
I can't be sure that the frame is silver, I’m hoping someone can tell me more about the stamp.
