VINTAGE FRENCH NEEDLEPOINT TAPESTRY CUSHION PILLOW
This bolster cushion is made from a complex hand worked vintage needlepoint with intricate floral and leaf patterns and an equally complicated border! The type of wool, colours used and style tells us this is an older needlepoint that we would estimate dates circa 1910/20. The work of a skilled hand, the design is worked in the 'old colours' of times past, (muted and subtle) with a sprinkling of gold silk highlights on a 'creamy beige' ground that give this textile an aura of 'faded elegance! We have trimmed the cushion with late 19th century French 'onion' gold passementerie with a pretty braid edge in shades of delicate apricot, creams and beiges - we only use antique or vintage trims to embellish our cushions - never repro - as our personal feeling is that older textiles deserve older trims to compliment them. The reverse side is vintage velvet in a shade of 'clotted cream' (it's a beautiful, dense, colour....no patchy areas, that's just light reflection bouncing off the pile). A stunning cushion that will work in most room settings including antique, vintage, country, period and of course 'faded grandeur!'! It's a beautiful decorative accessory created entirely from vintage textiles that will add character and timeless beauty to your home. CONDITION REPORT: Very good / excellent for age with no holes, tears, clean and with no odours......the needlepoint has just a couple of 'fluffy' stitches. APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS: 20 inches wide x 7 inches deep with a top quality waxed cambric feather and down inner custom made for this cushion by renaissance-textiles. . Waxed cambric is a strong casing that contains the feather and down and prevents the feathers escaping.
