VICTORIAN VULCANITE CROCUS CAMEO MOURNING BANGLE C1890

On offer is this superb late Victorian mourning bangle made entirely from vulcanite.

The huge cameo mounted on the front of the bangle is in immaculate condition and features a display of crocuses in relief. The outer border of the cameo has a delightful rope twist design; this surrounds the smooth flat panel surface from which the crocuses stand proud by over 1cm.

There is a certain amount of fading from black to brown at the back comensurate with age, the front is unaffected and still black.

The cameo alone measures 5cm by 4cm.

The width of the bangle is 3.5cm near the cameo, reducing to 2.5cm where it overlaps at the back.

The bangle stretches and is fully adjustable but at rest it sits at 7.5" circumference.

A very beautiful example that is as wearable today as it was in the 1890's.
