 CHILDS DRESS - CHRISTENING GOWN

Excellent Condition.

Here for auction is very pretty vintage/Victorian child’s dress or Christening gown. I am not an expert and can only describe what I can see, please look at the photos to see how beautiful this dress is.

The dress is made from the finest cotton that it is see through! It is exquisitely detailed; the bodice has a stunning panel of lace, cutwork and embroidery which is such fine work and in a very pretty floral design. This panel is edged with a flounce of the same lace which continues over the shoulder and around the back neckline. The short puff sleeves are also decorated with lace edging.

The skirt of the dress is full with 9 rows of slim pin tucks and the hemline is finished with the most detailed  embroidered and scalloped edging.

Measures 11inches across the waistline and is 24inches from shoulder to the hem.

The dress is a nice fresh white colour and in good condition, but it is not perfect. There are a few small holes particularly in the hemline embroidered border. There are also two or three splits in the hemline too. This is consistent with the delicate fabric and age of the dress and does not detract from its beauty.

Please note that vintage linens and clothing are old preworn items and cannot therefore be expected to be in perfect “new” condition. I will mention any damage, marks, tears etc where I can, but am not able to list every tiny flaw. Often vintage linens also have a small embroidered or written marking to identify the owners when the items were sent out to the laundry.
