VERY EARLY WARD LOCK GUIDE - THE THAMES - 1911 - RARE!

This very early Ward Lock & Co illustrated travel guide is one of the original editions of the "red" guides published between 1910 and 1918.  These were the first of those with the famous "coat of arms" design on the cover and with the 1/- net price at the top of the spine, leading to the guides becoming known as the "shilling" guides.  They are full of contemporary photographs, advertisements and fold-out maps.

This particular guide dates from 1911/12, new edition.  Details as follows :

Area covered : The Thames, from Putney to Cricklade.

Contents : 192 pages of text, plus 98 pages of fascinating old advertisements.  6 fold-out maps (all present) and over 90 illustrations.

Overall condition : Very good.

Maps :  Excellent. All are present and complete, with no damage. Slight discolouration.

Covers : Very good.  Normal wear.  Slight superficial water marking.

Spine :  Very good. No markings or damage.

Binding : Very good. 

Pages : Very good.  Normal wear.  Discolouration at edges. A few pages are loose.
