VERY EARLY WARD LOCK GUIDE - NORTH WALES (NORTH) - 1903

This very early Ward Lock & Co illustrated travel guide is one of the original editions of the "red" guides published between 1901 and 1910.  These were the first of those with the famous "coat of arms" design on the cover and with the 1/- net price at the top of the spine, leading to the guides becoming known as the "shilling" guides.  They are full of contemporary photographs, advertisements and fold-out maps.

This particular guide dates from 1903/04.  3rd edition revised.  Details as follows :

Area covered : North Wales (Northern section) - including Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, Conway, Rhyl, Chester, Deganwy, Penmaenmawr, Llanfairfechan, Bangor, Anglesey, Bettws-y-coed, Llanrwst, Capel Curig, Caernarvon and Snowdon.

Contents : 192 pages of text.  5 maps (all present). 3 sketch plans.  60 illustrations.  90 pages of wonderful old contemporary advertisements.

Overall condition : Externally poor.  Internally very good.

Maps :  Very good.  All the fold-out maps are present and undamaged.

Covers :  Very worn, and with old water damage which has caused some superficial staining (see scan).

Spine : Damaged.  Large part of spine cloth missing.

Binding :  Covers have come loose.  Internal binding remains very good.

Pages : Very good.  Normal wear.  Some discolouration.  A couple of loose pages at front.
